It has taken nearly fifteen years to rebuild the Mark II Colossus computer in the same position as Colossus 9 originally occupied in Block H. Colossus was not included in the history of computing hardware for decades, and Flowers and his associates were deprived of the recognition they were due for many years. The use to which the Colossi were put was of the highest secrecy, and Colossus itself was highly secret, and remained so for many years after the War. The first fully programmable digital electronic computer capable of running a stored program was still some way off - the 1948 Manchester Small Scale Experimental Machine. Colossus, however, was the first that was digital, programmable, and electronic. The notion of a computer as a general purpose machine - that is, as more than a calculator devoted to solving difficult but specific problems - would not become prominent for several years.Ĭolossus was preceded by several computers, many of them being a first in some category. After a functional test, Colossus Mk 1 was delivered to Bletchley Park in late December 1943 / January 1944, was assembled there by Harry Fensom and Don Horwood, and was working in early February 1944.Ĭolossus was the first of the electronic digital machines with programmability, albeit limited in modern terms. Tommy Flowers spent eleven months designing and building Colossus at the Post Office Research Station, Dollis Hill, in North West London. Much work has still to be done to complete perhaps the world's most exciting computing exhibit, but already Colossus is viewable by the public as never before and is set to inspire future generations of engineers and computer scientists. In 2012, a major fundraising campaign, led by TNMOC trustee Tim Reynolds, was launched to convert the old Colossus workshop room into a brand new Gallery. Once again Colossus was able to crack the Lorenz code (in 3.5 hours), but was beaten in the race by Joachim Schueth, a professional computer software engineer, who wrote special software for his PC to break the ciphertext in just 46 seconds! They succeeded and in 2007 it was tested in the global Colossus Cipher Challenge. In 1992, Tony Sale and his team began the ambitious task of rebuilding a working Colossus. Not until 1975 when the first information about Colossus was declassified could the story begin to be told. The cipher text was input via paper tape and the 2500 valves of Colossus would find the Lorenz machine chi-wheel settings.īy the end of the war, 63 million characters of high-grade German communications had been decrypted by 550 people helped by the ten Colossus computers. The information gleaned from the decrypted messages is widely acknowledged to have shortened the war by many months, saving tens of thousands of lives. As the First Order threatened to capture Kaz and the rest of Team Fireball, he and his friends launched a daring plan to drain the ship and make the Colossus spaceworthy once more.Colossus reduced the time to work out the Lorenz chi-wheel settings and enabled more messages to be deciphered and the whole code-breaking operation to be accelerated. Ultimately, he also learned that the Colossus wasn't just a platform – it was actually a waterlogged ship that had been docked deep below the surface. Using the platform as his base, Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono infiltrated the bustling community there in an attempt to gain valuable intel on the First Order. A favorite target for Kragan Gorr's pirate gang, the refueling station eventually caught the attention of the First Order, whose leaders aimed to take the platform as their own in a tactical move for a war not yet started. But beneath the surface, the Colossus was much more. At first look, the Colossus seemed like an oasis on the watery planet of Castilon, a forgotten refueling platform filled with traders, businesses, and protected by a group of renowned racers who spent their free time in competition for sport.

Share on social media with the hashtag #KnowHisWord21, so we can learn together! We’ve included an image below, featuring a verse we will read this month, perfect for Instagram. To the chief Musician, A Psalm or Song of David.ġ Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.Ģ As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.ģ But let the righteous be glad let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.Ĥ Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.ĥ A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.Ħ God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.ħ O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness Selah:Ĩ The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.ĩ Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary.ġ0 Thy congregation hath dwelt therein: thou, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor.ġ1 The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.ġ2 Kings of armies did flee apace: and she that tarried at home divided the spoil.ġ3 Though ye have lien among the pots, yet shall ye be as the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold.ġ4 When the Almighty scattered kings in it, it was white as snow in Salmon.ġ5 The hill of God is as the hill of Bashan an high hill as the hill of Bashan.ġ6 Why leap ye, ye high hills? this is the hill which God desireth to dwell in yea, the LORD will dwell in it for ever.ġ7 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place.ġ8 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.ġ9 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. We’d also love to hear what you’re learning as we read through His Word together. November 9 – 2 Chronicles 36:22-23 Ezra 1-3Ĭlick to download a PDF version of the Know His Word November Reading Plan. Meditate on the fulfillment of God’s promise and praise God for sending His Son. Jesus’ genealogies show that he descends from Adam, but through his adoptive father’s lineage he is David’s royal heir as well. Near the end of the month we will move into the New Testament and see God’s True King arrive. We will read of Daniel’s visions and later watch world history unfold just as Daniel prophesied.Īs we near the end of our reading through the Old Testament, notice the references back to the exodus and the original vision for God’s chosen people, as well as the failures of the Israelites prior to the exile of Babylon. The story of Scripture continues to unfold as we read about the world’s superpowers shift with the rise of the Persions, the building of the second temple, and the longing for Christ’s coming. We wanted to go ahead and provide the November reading plan so you can print it out and have it ready for the first day of the month! In 2021, we’re sharing a monthly chronological Bible reading plan that will help us grow and understand how the Bible fits together. Changing the focus (pinpoint/single/multi/center/custom) do not have any influence on this behaviour. Soem might remember the great Evolt 410 where one could disable the AA filter and got amazing sharpnes and some grain without sacrifing real detail.Īnyway, back to the Lumix, the camera gives a very fast focus lock, but I soon found that even if a focus lock is shown it might not actually be in focus. Here I have to mention that I do like a filmlike grainy look as long as it is not "instead" of detail. Images were seemingly sharp, with a grainy look to them. Now after taking quite a couple of shots of airliners I got the impression that something might be not perfect as I did notice a phenomena I'd call simply as "lack of detail". The WiFi functionality is terrific, even if it can't be used for contrail spotting. The EVF is also quite useable, even if some might dislike the field effect of the EVF, somewhat comparable to the rainbow effect of DLP projectors. As manual focus with these was a pain I gave the FZ80 / FZ82 a try after I have been disappointed with the Nikon P900 and the image processing.įirst a few words about the FZ80 / FZ82, the menues and handling I do like very much over the Nikons, also the size and functionality seems prettey good considering the price segment of this camera. Until now I mainly used a Pentax Q (crop factor 5,5x) and a Samsung NX Mini (crop factor 2,7x) due to their crop factor and small pixel size, that gave me quite a nice range when used with tele lenses like a Sigma 400 F5,6 apo or a telescope. Its fascinating to see how Aurelien is using his own software and it helps understanding how Darktable (or his modules) are designed. As a few might know I am a contrail spotter, so the main reason for me to go with a Lumix camera was the zoom lens, or to be more accurate the range of the lens at the tele end. You can see him use it to recover some nearly hopeless RAW files that get thrown at him in real time by the participants in his live stream (and you can download it to use it yourself): In this video he shared a style designed for a rapid editing workflow that really works well for me. Once you have grasped the basics by watching the tutorials from Bruce Williams, you can explore deeper by watching Aurelien Pierre for example. It is well worth the time spent getting to know it better IMO. Unlike LR where changing one slider will often lead to imbalance in other area's. This sounds great, but if you want to start from what is really captured by the camera (like Rawtherapee and Darktable do) it can be a disadvantage.įrom Bruce Williams I learned that every module and slider is designed with affecting only one parameter at a time in mind. filmic RGB) that have no counterpart in any PP software I know.īe aware that LR is applying some basic sharpening and other stuff to any RAW file before showing it to you. There are a lot of modules that work in original ways (e.g. At first glance it is a LR 'clone' but it really isn't at all. A little overwelmed and confused about it. Just the same experience here with Darktable. I think we may have a winner! Time to learn more about this intriguing piece of software. Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! One of the best technical developers for Darktable can be found could ask him directly, or just learn from his tutorials.įor beginners the video's from Bruce can be very Rawtherapee I found this very dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… They are free and there are lots of tutorials on Youtube. each module (like exposure adjusting, color calibration.) has the same very powerful masking possibilities built in. Also Darktables power for editing is overwhelming, e.g. making a custom watermark that embeds the creation date of each photo in the picture (automatically) at export. Darktable has a steeper learning curve but it can do things that LR can not do e.g. Rawtherapee is great for quick edits and is the most intuitive to learn. Both have features that Lightroom has not so in some ways they are even better than LR. If you did not try Darktable or Rawtherapee yet, you should have a look.īoth have lens corrections built in and run on Windows/Mac/Linux.
Our tester found that the handle was comfortable to hold, even after a long session with potatoes. The swiveling blade moves at exactly the right angle to peel vegetables with ease, which was confirmed by our tester after peeling many white potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, and tomatoes. It has a slightly better grip and sharper blade and is much sturdier than the original. Eyer: This small protrusion near the blade allows you to remove imperfections without gouging the potato. This is the upgraded version of a classic Oxo peeler.A peeler should sit comfortably in your hand and allow you to work quickly, without fatigue. Handle: While a non-slip handle is universally helpful - you don’t want the peeler to slip and cut you - the main advice is to find a peeler that’s comfortable for you.Carbon steel is very sharp but can rust over time if not washed and dried thoroughly. Stainless steel holds a sharp edge and is also usually dishwasher safe. Material: Blades are generally stainless steel or carbon steel, though there are ceramic-bladed peelers.Straight blades produce clean cuts, while serrated leave behind ridges that are not ideal for presentation. After putting both to the test, we recommend straight blades for potatoes and most ingredients and serrated for delicate items with thin skins, like tomatoes. Blade: Potato peelers come with straight or serrated blades. They're helpful if you're facing a big batch or if you can't use manual peelers. They generally spin the produce against a blade to remove the skin in a continuous strip. Some are self-contained and run on their own power, while others are attachments for appliances like a stand mixer. These run on a motor and save you time and effort. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference: Either can be used for all types of peeling. You also have Y peelers, which have a double blade that lies perpendicular to the handle and "are good for long, straight ingredients," says Papantoniou. With manual peelers, you have the traditional style, which features a double blade positioned parallel to the handle and is better at getting around curves and edges, says Nicole Papantoniou, Kitchen Appliance Lab’s Senior Testing Editor. Style: There are two main types of potato peelers to consider: manual and electric. The most efficient peelers made our list of the best potato peelers to buy in 2021: We also noted whether the peeler was comfortable to hold and use as well as able to swivel around all shapes quickly and easily. We evaluated 8 data points including the thinness of the peeled skins and the smoothness of the peeling process. In the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Kitchen Appliances Lab, we tested more than a dozen potato peelers by peeling over 20 pounds of produce: carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and apples. The right peeler will make it a breeze to tackle a ton of taters, as well as as assortment of other ingredients, from apples and carrots to butternut squash and more unusual suspects like cheese and chocolate. These peelers still reflect the top performers from our most recent test by the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances Lab.īefore you reach for the best potato mashers for herbed mashed potatoes and even before you grab the best graters for easy potato latkes, you need a potato peeler. We updated this guide in November 2021 to ensure our best overall pick was in stock. Wise financial decision, but, well, gotta to subtract 1 out of 10. And nothing will be changed, devs are making new stand-alone DLC instead patches and free ones. Mountain pass of something is delivered straight from Early Access. and it's rather solid piece, however underground (subway) travel is frustrating. Wastes - the main ones and pretty good, but inconsistent. Some top-weapons requires 70 of their respecting skill (for example, throwing), another 110. Mayhap, there were some plans to add exNATO settlement of surviving paratroopers? Perhaps, idk, and it's just one of examples. In soviet wasteland you can have some NATO weapons, but another, that you can add in your inventory by console will have lines like ".and how this %weapon% got onto soviet soil is a big mystery.". Doesn't matter what is your character build, your previous choices - nothing. At once you have decent quests with variety of options and in another moment - like railway ending to the story of main NPC. Overall underdevelopment and quality inconsistency. A note for all people crying about the difficulty and claiming having played / or comparing to the original first two Fallout games. Rich story, interesting NPCs, turn-based combat, original world, original and sometime funny dialogs as in the first 2 Fallouts, excellent rpg mechanics & skill/attribute based dialog options, weapons and items galore, random encounters on world map, crafting, player base, player car, vodka. Even if it is a smaller project than its elders, this game greatly delivers. It can open all the usual file formats displays the usual waveform view of your file can trim, cut, copy or paste wherever you like and has plenty of useful effects (fade in and out, normalize, remove vocals, tweak volume, auto trim, a silence remover and more). Wavosaur is a tiny program (768KB), yet it is amazingly powerful, despite its small size. The interface is far more intuitive and professional than Audacity, and there is a nice task manager on the right panel to get jobs done quickly.
